Traveling by air, into Mexico

When entering Mexico, 2 forms will be completed
      1)      A form called the FMM (Tourist Visa) – the immigration officeer keeps the blue side, and give you back the green side.
a.       The blue side is your Entry into Mexico, and the green side is your departure visa to leave Mexico.
It is VERY IMPORTANT to keep the green part (with your passport) as you MUST have this to leave Mexico.
b.      The Mexican government levis a fee for these visitor permits (FMMs) –
approx $22.
If you fly into Mexico, the fee is usually included in your ticket’s ‘fees and surcharges’.

c. You can also fill out your FMM right before your trip, online, and print it,
to take with you on your flight.

     2)      Also during your flight to Mexico you will be given a Customs Declaration form. Each head of household needs to fill this out. Again it asks for your basic passport info, how long you will be in Mexico, and how much luggage you have. Most importantly it asks if you are carrying 10,000 US Dollars or more, any meat, food, plants, chemicals, weapons, or merchandise for which you need to pay duty.

On a side-note, there is now an official app for Android phones, called “Mobile Passport”.
The website that talks about this is here.
If you’re flying into certain U.S. cities (21 cities so far), via an international flight,
you can complete your customs form right on your phone,
and then show the ‘receipt/form’ to the Customs agent, once you go thru Customs.

Knorr Bouillon

So, there's a brand of bouillons (you know, for flavoring of soups, etc)  called "Knorr".

They make Beef, Chicken, Vegetable, and Pork flavor of the bouillon cubes,
but, if you go to a regular grocery, they never have the Pork flavor. Not sure why, tho'.

I did find out  that if you go an Oriental/Asian store, they usually carry the Pork flavor.

Rental car advice

Most folks these days have cell phones - and a lot of cell phones come with a built-in camera.

If you're renting a car during a trip, take a picture of the car - just in case you forget what it looks like,
and you're having trouble finding it in a big parking lot - at least you'll have a picture to help reference, and to jog your memory.

Tipping - Q: When is it okay to tip in anything besides the local currency?

Q: When is it okay to tip in anything besides the local currency?
A: If the choice is that or nothing, then leave the non-local currency. But otherwise, try your best to leave a tip in the currency of that country.
Run out and grab some change on your lunch break, or visit an ATM.
By leaving a tip in a non-local currency, you're giving your service person work to do, and they'll likely have to pay a fee to change it into their own currency. So you should only leave a tip in your own currency if you don't have time to get something else.

Cheaper Airfare?

There's a website (and corresponding app for your smart-phone)  called Skiplagged.

It's an airfare search engine for cheap flights, showing hidden city ticketing trips in addition to what sites like Expedia, KAYAK, and Travelocity show.

Although it doesn't save you money for every single flight, it can save you 15%, 20%, 35%, and sometimes even save you more than half the regular fare - depending on where you're going.

How does it work?
A lot of the time, a trip to a 'connecting' city will be cheaper

than if that city was the final destination.

What I mean by that is this:
Let's say I wanted to fly from Seattle to Cincinnati, 1-way.
A ticket might cost around $215 (one-way).

Yet a ticket from Seattle to Nashville is only $160...

Why do I mention Nashville, when I really want to go to Cincinnati?
Because the trip to Nashville has a layover in Cincinnati.

You save $55 by just booking the trip to Nashville,
but not getting on that connecting flight  when you're in Cincinnati.

Yes, you can do this - as long as you have no checked baggage
since any checked bags would go to the final destination, even if you get off at a connecting city.
